What Can We Expect from the New Chevy Blazer?

What Can We Expect from the New Chevy Blazer?

The Chevy Blazer has been an iconic part of the Chevy lineup since it was first introduced in 1969, and its square body design didn’t changed much in the intervening years. When it was introduced, it was the smallest full-sized SUV in its class but it vanished from the lineup in 2005 (in the S-10 variant). The 2019 model year is going to bring back the Blazer and give it a long overdue makeover and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.  What can we expect from the new Chevy Blazer when it starts rolling off the assembly line?

Raising the Crossover Bar

The new Blazer is being hailed as one of the most exciting crossover vehicles to hit the market in recent years.  In terms of lineup, this midsized SUV will fit in between the smaller Equinox – which is having its size reduced for the next model year – and the full-sized Traverse, and it will have all the bells and whistles.

On the aesthetic side of things, the new Blazer will have self-described “muscular proportions” – giving it a powerful, solid look without reverting to the blocky body stylings of yesteryear. Much of the design influence for the new Blazer came from the Camaro.

The interior is being described as driver-centric and will feature plenty of cargo space and comfortable seating for five. The rear seat is also adjustable and can be moved as needed. A cargo management system will come standard on the roof, as well as a dual pane sunroof.

The Engine

For now, there will be three different models of the Blazer available: the standard, the RS, and the Premium. Currently, we know of two engine sizes being offered: the 2.5L I-4 engine–which generates a respectable 193 horsepower–and the 3.6L V-6 engine–which offers 305 horsepower and makes the crossover tow-capable as well. It’s yet to be known if they will ever offer an SS version with either a twin-turbo V6 or a V8. The Fast Lane Car says that expecting anything close to a V8 is pure fantasy, but don’t count it out just yet. There are a few other things we don’t know about it, such as if they’re starting to follow the trend to aluminum.

Both engine sizes will be equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Some models will also include a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system that allows the driver to switch between AWD and FWD at the flick of a switch, which is useful for towing.

The Features

Don’t worry – you won’t be stuck with the classic cassette or 8-track tape deck that your last Blazer might have had.  These new models come with all the bells and whistles from cruise control and rearview cameras to heated seats and steering wheels and remote climate control. You’ll never have to worry about getting into a freezing cold or sweltering hot car again.

Wireless charging, USB ports, locking glove compartments, Valet mode and more are just a few of the things that will be available with these cars. They can even come equipped with their own Wi-Fi.

We don’t have any info on pricing or what each model will include as standard equipment as of yet. That information will be released as we get closer to the premiere day but we are excited to see the classic Blazer get a new lease on life.  We can’t wait to get behind the wheel and see what this new incarnation of an iconic SUV can actually do.
