Video: Exclusive Look at How AWE Builds Mustang Exhausts by Hand

For those of you who are unaware, AmericanMuscle isn’t just home to some of the best performance parts on the planet, it also has been granting enthusiasts exclusive video access and behind-the-scenes coverage of the shop’s that make the parts they sell.

Code-named “AmericanMuscle’s Hot Lap Series,” this monthly video installment is hosted by none other than brand ambassador and all-around questionable welder, Justin Dugan, as he touches upon some of the most talked about and coveted aftermarket items in the Ford Mustang community.

One particular feature of interest focuses upon Dugan taking a tour of none other than AWE Tuning, in order to get a bit more backstory on the brand, and see firsthand how the company designs and builds some of the highest quality Mustang exhausts on the market.

Commonly referred to as Air & Water Enterprises, or AWE for short, this high-end performance shop was first founded by Todd Sager in Germantown, Pennsylvania way back in 1991. As word spread within the European tuning community of Sager’s unrivaled attention to detail, high-quality craftsmanship, and unique approach to producing parts, things began to snowball into what you see here today. AWE quickly outgrew its tiny single-bay shop, and morphed into the monster that it is today, with exhausts, carbon fiber intakes, and high-flow intercoolers being the brand’s core focus. This winning trifecta causes AmericanMuscle to refer to AWE as, an internationally distributed manufacturer of precision hard parts.”

But Mustangs and muscle cars weren’t always the key focus over at AWE, as Volkswagen and Audi were the brand’s bread and butter for the longest time, and still make up a healthy amount of annual sales. Nowadays, AWE tackles everything from Porsches and McLarens, to Bentleys and BMW’s, with a slathering of Chevy and Ford fun thrown in for good measure. It was actually just about two years ago that AWE added the iconic Mustang to its product roster, a decision that has since turned into quite the profitable venture for the firm. Being exclusively built around manufacturing exhausts, air intakes, and intercoolers also means that AWE has been able to retain a core focus and incorporate many of its successes and product breakthroughs within the European segment by applying them vehicles like the Ford Mustang.

As this Hot Lap episode illustrates, Justin’s tour of AWE’s facility in Horsham, PA illuminates precisely how a product bearing the brand’s badge is developed and designed, as well as the way in which it performs once properly outfitted on a vehicle. A quick visit to the company’s in-house installation center shows precisely how easy it was to upgrade AmericanMuscle’s 2018 Mustang GT with an AWE Touring catback exhaust, and the benefits it provided thereafter. Engineered to the highest standard from some of the world’s top materials, and then assembled by hand in-house, AWE remains a leader within the aftermarket car community for good reason, a fact that this video clearly supports.

Who would’ve thought that AWE, a company originally founded for the Euro Enthusiast, would eventually go on to produce some of the nicest sounding Mustang exhausts in the category, exclaims Dugan. On top of that they hand build everything right here on the East coast using some of the finest materials possible and top it all off with my personal favorite a blow pop with every purchase.”
