Throwback Thursday: 10 Basic Tips to Building Your First LS Engine

The week is nearing completion, and once again, Thursday has landed on our doorsteps. If you’re like me, weekend garage plans have already made. Assembling an LS engine is much like assembling a traditional small-block, but there are some variations you should know about.

That’s when we reached out to Golen Engine Service, and the first thing that Chad explained had to with choosing the engine block. “You need to especially careful, since the older, OE aluminum blocks can only be honed about .007-inch, from 3.898-inch to 3.905-inch, which can clean up any decent used LS1 engine.”

But, “When you’re building an LS short-block for a Camaro, Firebird, or C5 Corvette, the main parts you need to focus on are the connecting rods and pistons,” says Chad.
