The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is already an impressive car, cranking out an astonishing 840 horsepower and moving from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds with a top speed of 168 miles per hour. It is one of the most powerful production cars on the market right now and the most coveted – only 3,300 of them were made, with the last one being auctioned off alongside the very last Dodge Viper later this year.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, High Horses Performance has already modded one and the modded version tears down the track. Let’s take a closer look at this modded monster and what High Horses Performance is hoping to do in the future with it.
Modded Monster
The Dodge Demon is already a beast, so it doesn’t need a whole lot of modification. Josh Schwartz, the owner of High Horses Performance in Delaware, didn’t have to do much to make this beauty sing. All he did was swap out one pulley, fill it with high octane racing fuel, and do a little bit of tuning on the computer and it was ready for the strip.
It did have a little bit of problem with traction on the track – you can hear the back wheels skipping on the pavement a little as it takes off – but other than that, the first test run of this modded Demon can definitely be dubbed a success.
Future Mods
We’re not sure where High Horses Performance is planning to go next with this Demon mod, but we’re definitely interested to see what they come up with. The first few runs didn’t quite touch the stock 9.65 second quarter-mile time of the stock Demon, which may have been due to the traction issues, (or the fact that Dodge’s run was at -1,800 feet DA) but once those problems are worked it’s entirely possible that this car will easily smash that record to bits.
It wasn’t a bad first run though, even if it still needs a little tweaking to make it the perfect drag race car. And he’ll want to make sure he keeps it from overheating. This car is already the epitome of muscle car, even without any modifications. There’s nothing more powerful than it on the road today – and yes, this beast is street legal – so we can’t wait to see what it is able to do on the track.
It might be tough to get your hands on one of these powerful beauties, so, for now, we’ll just have to settle for watching them on the track, and in the hands of master modders like Josh Schwartz.
