Thailand Gets Its First Opportunity To Own A Mustang

Thailand Gets Its First Opportunity To Own A Mustang

For the first time in the 54-year history of the Ford Mustang, gearheads living in Thailand will be able to drive one off the Ford showroom floor. All option levels of the ‘Stang will be available to traverse the roads of the country. According to THE NATION, a Thai online news portal, this is the very first “muscle car” ever to be sold there.

Before you think the 300-horsepower model or even the 460-horse Mustang GT will be terrorizing the Thai streets in any significant capacity, consider a few more calculations. The country overflows with more than 32-million 50-150cc motorbikes (we did our research) as the primary mode of transportation.

A little tapping into a currency calculator found the Ford Ecoboost Mustang will cost buyers 3.599-million in Taiwan baht which converts to $109,585-US plus change. Convert the 5.0-litre V8 GT, and that price tag chimes in at a mere 4.799-million baht which comes out to $146,124-US, plus a penny.

Thailand’s dense population, with over 350 people per square mile, shows the typical new Yamaha motorbike utilized by a majority of the country checks in at a converted $1,300-2,700 US. It’s confident to predict that if you can get your hands on one of these new Mustangs, you will stand out among the crowd.

Before absorbing the Mustang sticker shock, these prices undercut the performance model BMW M4 which is also imported to Thailand. The M4 offers 431 horsepower, approximately 30 horses less than the Mustang GT. The M4 prices out at just over 8-million baht.

No fundamental design changes were made in the Mustangs to meet Thailand regulations. All model levels of the Mustang can feature options varying from the Ecoboost 2.3 liter to the performance options available on the GT, including the electronic line lock system.

Ford is a known brand in Thailand with hundreds of Ford dealerships located there; the country already imports the blue oval vehicles ranging from the Focus to the Ecosport as well as trucks. The Mustang has been slated for sale at just 19 select dealerships.

It will be interesting to watch the Mustang sales figures as Thailand gets its first taste of a Ford performance muscle car.
