Check out this unique build, it is a marriage between British and American folklore. This Dodge Viper powered Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet will have you questioning everything you ever felt about engine swaps!
This black 1989 Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet is powered by a professionally installed V10 crate engine, manual transmission, and rolls on Hesco alloy wheels. Tom Mack Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina listed the car for sale on ProxiBid, where we found out about it, but the car ended up selling for $29,500 onsite.
The Viper engine gives the car over 500-horsepower, leaving behind the original 5.3L V12 with 295-horsepower. Maybe this isn’t a nice thing to say about the original Jaguar engine, but the car is much better off with the Viper engine in terms of reliability as well.
Jaguar’s XJ-S was the brand’s longest running model, it carried on with a 22-year production spanning from 1975 on through to 1996. It’s not exactly a sports car, the sixteen-footer is a luxury grand tourer; it was capable of exceeding 140 miles per hour and reaches 60 miles per hour in less than 8 seconds. Over 115,000 of these were made, and came in a coupe, targa, or convertible form.
Due to the high production number, the swap isn’t that off-putting as there aren’t going be many purest to come forward to shame it.
