Last week, Amazon launched the Gymkhana Files, an eight-episode series that follows professional rally and rallycross driver Ken Block and his Hoonigan Media Machine team as they attempt to create their greatest automotive video to-date, GymkhanaTEN.
The Gymkhana Files go deep behind the scenes and document what goes into creating one of the most successful viral video franchises while simultaneously dealing with the challenges of Block racing in the World Rallycross Championship.
Ken Block is one of the co-founders of Hoonigan and Hoonigan Media Machine; he is a driver with Hoonigan Racing Division as well as one of the co-founders of DC Shoes. Over the last decade, the Gymkhana videos have amassed over half-a-billion views and have been named one of the “Top 10 Viral Video Advertisements of All Time” by AdAge and won numerous awards.
For the tenth Gymkhana video, Block and his team traveled to five different locations across two continents, with five different racecars. The goal was to make GymkhanaTEN be the best video they’ve made to date.
The first episode in the series shows Ken Block as he finishes his latest video project, Climbkhana. It provides an intimate look at the challenges Block and his team faced concerning the extreme altitude, wild weather, and the devastating consequences of the corner of every cliff while beginning preparations for GymkhanaTEN.
The second episode kicks off the year-long project, and we see Block, Brian Scotto, and the team take the Ford Mustang Hoonicorn v2 to Detroit.
Each Friday, the Gymkhana Files releases two episodes until the season finale, set for December 7, which also serves as the world premiere of GymkhanaTEN. Prime members can now stream the series exclusively on the Prime Video app or online via PrimeVideo.com.
