H2O International, the notorious two-day Volkswagen/Audi event has a brand new venue: The Showboat Boardwalk Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Over the past few years, the originally subdued VW/Audi-specific show morphed into a week-long car party that draws out people looking to showcase heavily modified cars that are known for being illegally low, and every year the police have come out in force to ticket every chrome-wheeled vehicle that cruises main street.
As a result, each year, every night of the show is filled with ocean fog, tire smoke, and flashing red and blue lights.
A police spokesperson reported 1,222 traffic stops in the town with a population of normally around just 7,000 people during the 2016 event. The Instagram-famous car show still racked up 78 arrests, 2,735 calls to police and one charge for attempted murder in 2017 despite the show technically “canceled” that year. This has solidified its title as “the most ticketed car show in America.”
The entire culture of the event is about avoiding the cops, with tickets, tow fees and impound rates viewed as the price of admission. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the show, which is set for September 29-30, 2018.
It will take place inside the Hotel’s giant, eight-story parking garage and a large barbeque and bar will be set up right on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk. A MusicFest will be present on both days, and many lifestyle and aftermarket equipment brands will be on hand.
With the new location and the show just around the corner, there is no telling what will happen. Either way, time is running out to register and take advantage of special room rates for show attendees.
