Slammed ‘66 Lincoln Continental “Land Yacht”

After World War II, American automakers subscribed to a simple but effective theory; bigger is better. From big block engines to bigger body styles, American automobiles grew and grew and grew from the 1950’s all the way until the late 70’s, littering the landscape with a new class of personal luxury cars affectionately known as “land yachts.” These gas guzzling, 4,000+ pound automobiles are not exactly popular cars with the customizing crowd, though it…

Grand National Roadster Show Rides Again

So many great roadsters, only three days to ogle them.

The 63rd Grand National Roadster Show opens on Friday and runs through Sunday night, when they hand out the million or so awards to just about everybody who showed up. This is the ninth year the show has been held at the L.A. County Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., having moved south from its Bay Area roots where it was known forever–and by some even today–as the Oakland Roadster Show or, simply, Oakland.

New owner John Buck, who someday will stop being referred…

Ed Roth’s Tweedy Pie

Tweedy Pie rear 3/4 view

LOS ANGELES, California – Tweedy Pie is considered one of history’s most famous hot-rod T-Buckets, spawning over 11 million model kits and other assorted memorabilia. It features some of the earliest pinstriping examples by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth – a custom hot rod builder who achieved cult status in the California street racing scene of the 1960s.

Roth performed a complete rebuild on the car, adding a lot more chrome, a slick white pleated vinyl interior with purple…

1938 Ford Standard – Family Heirloom, Mike Carlson’s ’38 Ford Standard

Hand-me-downs usually come in the form of high-water jeans with worn-out knees or sweaters with mustard stains, right? Not always. At least not in this case, as Mike Carlson couldn’t quite wear what his father eventually passed down to him. But it almost didn’t come to be, as Mike is about to tell—a case of teenage temptation that initially netted a lengthy grounding, but fortunately, led to a happy ending.

1938 Ford Standard “The car was…

The King Rat: A Fire Engine-Powered ’31 Model A Ford

When you think of a rat rod, the last thing that comes to mind is drivability. Bubble-gum welds, trinkets welded onto everything strictly for visual confusion, and suspension and brakes that make you shudder just looking at them put the thought of running 60 mph down the highway into the “are you friggin’ crazy?!” category.

But what if we told you…

Dominating Worldwide: Hot Rodding

It would be naive of our readers to think that hot rodding was only a stateside, fan-based subculture. Yes, it’s deeply-rooted in American culture. Almost iconic. However, if you think that its only prevalent here in the land of the free and home of the brave, you’re flat-out wrong. While it was birthed in the sunny, suburban confines of Southern California during a time of Nuclear families, and when milk was actually delivered in glass bottles to your door step, it’s more recently stepped out…

1955 Chevrolet Hardtop – Back To His Roots Tom Nolen’s ’55 Chevy 409

Where were you in the summer of 1968? Tom Nolen was home on leave from the service and visiting his best girl and his favorite car, his ’55 Chevy hardtop. It was set up with a 348 with three Deuces and a three-speed but, since he was broke, he sensed this would be the last time he would get to see his ride before he sold it. So he and his girlfriend, Pat, took some pictures of each other with the car before he went…

Daytona Turkey Run Has Classic Year

DAYTONA BEACH — It was love at first sight.  Bob Williams, a 70-year-old resident of Key Largo, was a young man just starting his adult life when he saw a Mercury Comet parked in a dealer’s lot.

He scrounged together some money and put $100 down. In total, he paid $3,500 for the ride.

Eventually, Williams got rid of the car he loved so much in his younger days. Yet, he never forgot the Mercury.

“When I retired, I said, ‘I’d sure like…

Sinister Riviera: This ’66 Buick Is Gangster Cool!

We found this insane ’66 Buick Riviera on the AMcarguide site. If you like the old Buicks, especially the Riviera, then check out this wild creation. From what we gather these pictures were taken out in the desert, and it’s the perfect atmosphere for car with this type of attitude.

What makes this car so eye-catching is that the lines and body modifications transformed this Buick into the sinister looking hot rod you see here, and it’s definitely…
