In the muscle car community, we were pretty quick to turn our noses up at the idea that a Tesla would ever be good enough to be taken seriously. Over the years, however, they’ve begun to prove that they aren’t just expensive Prius knockoffs, and are actually respectable cars, despite having to plug them in to charge.

The Tesla Model S P100D made its debut with Ludicrous mode that helped it earn the title as being the third fastest production car with the capacity to reach 60 miles per hour in only 2.5 seconds. It’s not only the pep in its step that has silenced a few electric car naysayers, it’s also the fact that it has the ability to travel up to 315 miles on a charge, thanks to the 100 kWh battery. So, if power and range have you hating on electric cars, the P100D challenges you to find another argument against it.

On the other hand, the newest generation Camaro ZL1 is one of the most impressive American muscle cars to ever exist. While it’s almost a second slower to reach 60 miles per hour from a stop, it’s a track focused beast that’s dripping with power and performance.

In this video, you’ll see where the strengths and weaknesses are in both cars. The whole thing is worth a watch, but if you want the recap, the ZL1 eats it from a stop every single time, it just can’t close the gap on the off the line quickness of the Tesla Model S P100D. From a roll, however, it’s a much closer race, and way more intense as well. In one of several roll races, the Tesla gets the jump, but the ZL1 reels it in and passes it with ease. Throughout the rest of the runs, the ZL1 manages to show that from a roll, the ZL1 should not be messed with. Moral of the story, if you’re racing a ZL1, get as far away from it off the line as possible, and as far as the P100D, you’d better be packing something serious if you want to tangle with it.
