AMC Javelins aren’t exactly ‘quintessential muscle cars’, and they’re often pushed aside by car builders and enthusiasts, but that didn’t stop The Ringbrothers from doing their magic to make one cool. Using some pretty cool fabrication technology, and a monstrous powertrain, this car will turn anyone into a Javelin fan!
When Prestone approached Jim and Mike Ring about building a car to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary, they suggested using an AMC Javelin as a base car for their build. The build was unveiled at SEMA 2017, and is easily one of the most controversial projects seen at the show.
This car, like most Ringbrothers’ creations, does not stay within the lines of ‘normal’ builds. The color is even an anomaly since they opted to use a 2017 BMW color, instead of something from the original AMC catalog.
So let’s talk about this engine, which is the reason the car really even made it on our radar to begin with! Powering the classic Javelin is the might Hellcat engine, but this particular one is on steroids!
This engine is equipped with a much larger 4.5L Whipple supercharger to boost it from the stock 707-horsepower, to a whopping 1,100-horsepower. It’s also worth noting that these numbers are de-tuned, so there’s a lot more kicking room left in this engine.
To compliment this high-horsepower monster is a 4-link rear suspension, 12-bolt rear, side exhaust exists, and Brembo disc brakes.
Incredibly, a lot of this Javelin was made using 3D printing, a first for the Ringbrothers. This technology accounts for the COPO-like hood, Skyline inspired grille, and huge front splitter.
