QA1 Expands Offerings of Full-Vehicle Suspension Kits to Include
Impalas, Caprices, and Other GM B-Bodies
QA1 now offers bumper-to-bumper suspension solutions for Impalas, Caprices, and other 1978-1996 GM B-Bodies. While every component is available individually, QA1 has combined compatible existing products with the all-new rear Pro Coil Systems, upper and lower trailing arms, and custom-tailored front sway bar to create complete full-vehicle suspension kits in up to three levels of performance for handling or drag racing applications.
These kits upgrade all four corners with either Pro Coil Systems, which provide ride height adjustability, or non-coil-over Stocker Star shocks. Both the coil-overs and the smooth body shocks come in a variety of valving options, from double adjustable, single adjustable, drag “R” series adjustable, and non-adjustable, and they are included in the kits based on the intended use and performance level. The rear Pro Coil Systems in these kits feature a brand-new design with adjustable mounting brackets, which, combined with the 1.5” of height adjustability on the shock itself, provide a total of 3” of ride height adjustability while keeping the shock in its optimal operating range. This gives drivers even more options for lowering their vehicle while keeping the ride comfortable and smooth.
The GM B-Body suspension kits also feature a variety of tubular suspension components, including upper and lower control arms in either race or street options for increased handling, front and rear sway bars for additional stability, and upper and lower rear trailing arms for improved traction and better control. The rear lower trailing arms are offered in either standard or extended length. Most 1978-1996 GM B-bodies use the standard length trailing arms, but extended length trailing arms are recommended when lowering the 1993-1996 Caprice Sedan and the 1994-1996 Impala SS models due to the way the tire ends up sitting in the wheel well. For these, it’s recommended to use QA1’s 5/8” extended length lower trailing arms to center the tire in the wheel well, then pair that with the adjustable upper arms, which can accommodate the extended length.
Because each component in the kits works seamlessly with whatever OE component it attaches to, those who don’t want to make the whole investment right away can build a car in stages, using the component list as a roadmap. “Building a vehicle doesn’t happen all at once, and we understand that,” says Dave Kass, QA1 Customer Service Manager. “That’s why we wanted to lay out a plan that eliminates compatibility issues while also maximizing performance.”
The performance handling kits are designed to increase cornering ability, and the higher levels include coil-overs with stiffer springs to maximize stability and reduce body roll. Drag racing kits create a more controlled launch and improve straight-line stability, utilizing softer spring rates to maximize stored energy and weight transfer. These spring rates are geared towards average weight small block and LS-powered vehicles with stock trim. The kits are also offered without shocks to give drivers the flexibility to order shocks with the spring rates they want.
