Mustang Boss 302 Steals the Spotlight from Camaro GT4.R Debut

Going into the weekend of March 10th-12th, the biggest news was the premiere of the Camaro GT4.R at St. Petersburg — but it didn’t come out of the weekend that way!

The Camaro GT4.R is a turnkey ready racecar from GM, an upgraded, track tuned Camaro that was made to dominate the 2017 race season. However, things didn’t go so well for the model over the weekend at the World Challenge GTS double header. A Ford Mustang Boss 302 of Phoenix Performance and Andrew Aquilante took two wins to finish line.

Black Dog Speedshop’s Lawson Aschenbach was the piloting the Camaro GT4.R, and was in pole position for Race 1 on Friday. However, Aschenbach couldn’t keep Aquilante at bay. He lost the lead early in the race, and turned up second behind the Mustang. Jade Buford of Edge Motorsports to third place in his Sin R1 GT4.

With the win on Friday, Aquilante began in the pole position on Saturday. The Mustang’s driver had a poor start, letting the Camaro take the lead early, but the Camaro was back in second place four laps later. Aquilante took the Ford to the winner’s circle again.
