It’s been a very long time since the words “muscle car” and “Buick” were even used in the same conversation. The brand took a different turn quite sometime ago, and put their emphasis on comfort, luxury, and practicality, over performance. However, they will sneak in some performance models, without totally deviating from their current image. The new 2018 Buick Regal TourX is just one of those vehicles.
While the 2018 Buick Regal TourX might not exactly be a Trackhawk, it is a very respectable vehicle for people with needs that extend beyond what a car can offering them. It rides the line between station wagon and crossover, so it’s got plenty of room for your friends, family, dogs, cargo, etc., but we’re not overly concerned about a vehicle for its roominess.
What initially caught our eye about the 2018 Buick Regal TourX is that its powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine. And while this engine might only 250-horsepower out the box, in the right hands, this has the potential for quite a bit more power from tuning and simple modifications. This turbocharged engine feeds into a 8-speed automatic transmission with twin-clutch technology, pretty freaking sweet for a wagon!
Okay, so again, it’s certainly no Trackhawk, but the turbocharger and transmission mean it has potential. One thing is does share with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is that it is the TourX is an AWD vehicle, so it’s going to get much better traction than many vehicles on the road. This vehicle actually reminds us of the Subarus of the class, but we wonder if it could even touch it in popularity.
