This is a look at the highly anticipated 2018 Corvette ZR1. It was recently caught up close and personal by a spy photographer during a cold-weather test out in the Great White North.
The new ZR1 is expected to return with more horsepower and performance than the C6 version. Power should come from a supercharged V8, back by a manual transmission. While the 10-speed automatic from the Z06 remains and unlikely powertrain option.
Some think that the LT5 engine is going to be the powerhouse the ZR1. This is a DOHC engine, and there’s good reason to think this. Back in the forth generation of the Corvette, the ZR1 came with a DOHC engine, named the LT5.
Others have been seen with a large rear spoiler, although this particular prototype isn’t wearing it. There is evidence that an active aerodynamics package will likely be offered on the new ZR1 to keep its handling on point.
When exactly it will be unveiled is being wildly speculated on. It seems like it’s in the final stages of development, but some aren’t so sure. The Continental Tire Road Race Showcase IMSA event at Road America this August might be a safe bet on when the world will see the new ZR1, we’ll keep you updated as learn more.
