Xceleration Media and Power & Performance News covered and competed in the inaugural F-Body Nationals over the weekend. Project Vendetta, the 1998 Firebird Formula former weekend drag car turned road racer, traveled to Memphis from Atlanta to put some time in on the autocross course, and the crew at PPN got some great coverage of the event.
Over the last few weeks, Memphis has been experiencing some of the nicest weather its seen in September, but that changed as soon as the F-Body Nationals rolled into town! It went from 60s-70s-low 80s to 90s for the event, but that didn’t stop people from showing up.
The event featured three different segments, the car show, drag racing, and autocross. It was open to every year F-Body, and 5th-gen and 6th gen Camaros (we’ll let you argue amongst yourselves about those being true F-Bodies or not).
Project Vendetta demonstrated that she’s still very much a drag car while on the autocross course. As you can see in these pictures while Mr. Project Vendetta is driving our Digital Editor’s car, the 1998 Formula was squatting, launching, nose diving, and body rolling its way through the fairly tight course. Those characteristics are great for getting the hefty 4th-gen through the autocross course quite the challenging task.
The autocross portion with the Formula was a lot of fun for the drivers, but they definitely left for Atlanta with a lot of planning to consider. One great thing about an all F-Body event is that you get to pick up some tips and tricks from people with a car similar to yours and so Project Vendetta’s owners did spend a good amount of time talking to the pros at the event to find out how to correct the car’s lack of autocross manners. There will be a lot more on this under the Project Vendetta section of the site later this week.
Another fun aspect of this show is the fact that most of the cars there were show car quality, even the ones on the autocross and drag strip.
Congradulations to all of the award winners from the show, autocross, and drag racing segements! We can’t wait to see everyone again next year.
