In a year where electric cars are all the rage, the gasoline engine powered cars are still all the rage. These cars continue to be crowd pleasers as people want high-powered, sleek, gas guzzling, and obscenely awesome sports cars and muscle cars.
This contrast isn’t really that odd in years prior, but this year, it wasn’t exactly expected. However, most expected electric cars to dominate the show. Companies that have spent tons of money on electric cars are still not seeing much interest in their billion dollar investments. Falling gas costs, costs of gas powered vehicles, and confidence in the gasoline powered car are keeping drivers drawn to more conventional vehicles.
Other cars, like driverless cars, are barely a blip on anyone’s radar this year as they are still very much in their testing phase. Analysts expect that the first year of the driverless car, consumer interest wise, is going to be sometime in 2021.
“If I can give him as a gift 28 days through autonomous driving, so that he can take a break, listen to music, or maybe look after email, then that is a comfort factor that the customer will want to have,” -Explains BMW CEO Harald Krueger, using an example of a Chinese customer who spends 30 days out of the year sitting in traffic jams alone.
Internal combustion engines are offering people an experience that driverless cars just can’t — the driving experience! Many are also noting that this is one of the best Geneva Auto Show in years — we can’t wait to see more from it.
