Secrets Of The PRO-X Torque Converter Revealed
With TCI® PRO-X™ Torque Converters, what’s inside that counts the most

The TCI® PRO-X™ Torque Converter is sweeping through the drag racing ranks and leaving shattered records in its wake. The newest in the line-up of TCI® torque converters, it is the top of the line converter offering for extreme drag racing vehicles that delivers a new level of performance and durability. These 9 and 10 inch torque converters utilize the benefits of the HDT™ coating and some very unique parts inside, making them the strongest torque converter you can purchase. Able to handle as much as 2500+ hp and available for GM, Ford or Chrysler transmissions, these converters are perfect for multi-stage, nitrous assisted engines and supercharged and twin turbocharged engines. So what makes them great?

A new PRO-X Converter ready to set records at a track near you.

Recently we were allowed an exclusive behind the scenes to watch the assembly of a PRO-X™ converter at the TCI® headquarters in Ashland, MS. As we followed the process as the torque converter took shape. It was amazing to see the advanced technology and homegrown attention to detail involved in the creation of this converter. Each piece was built and then fitted to the converter right at the facility and then triple-tested to make certain that it will meet the needs of each customer . . . and then some. Follow along as we take the tour.

Bearing Surface - One key to the PRO-X™ torque converters ability to perform at levels well beyond the competition
is the quality of the bearing surface true-ness. Before a torque converter can become a PRO-X™ converter, it must
meet exacting standards to ensure excellent bearing load and life.

Forged Mounting Cover & Converter Pump Cover - The PRO-X™ converters feature a forged mounting cover that has
been machined to proper tolerances. Considerable time is spent making certain that the pump cover is capable of
handling the up to 2500+ horsepower often demanded of these converters.

Center Pilot Bushing - Through testing, TCI® engineers found that the center bushing must be of high quality and
installed properly. This is one of the secrets to PRO-X™ converter performance.

Date Coding & Dual Bolt Pattern - PRO-X™ converters are date coded to ensure they are serviced at proper intervals
(part of the TCI® service). The forged mounting cover features a dual bolt pattern for use with multiple engine applications.

Furnace Brazing - OE torque converter turbine fins are loose fitting and can flex causing loss of power. All PRO-X™
torque converters feature furnace brazing of each individual fin – a time consuming process but one that is required
to deliver the ultimate performance and durability.

Snout Mic Check - Exacting Tolerances in the converter pump hub is one of the many checks TCI® makes during
construction. Each hub is checked to make certain it is perfectly round and measures within tenths of thousandths
and is up to specifications.

INA Needle Bearing, Pre-Lube Bearings - INA needle bearings are the ultimate bearing for torque converter use. To
ensure they seat properly during break in, they are thoroughly lubricated before the converter is assembled.

Hub Measurements - As was the case with the converter pump hub, the converter mounting cover pilot hub is also
measured to make certain it meets requirements.

Stator - Much is said about stators these days. They are the brain of any torque converter. PRO-X™ steel stators are
custom hand-built components. There is no better stator available.

Welding Converter - PRO-X™ converters are welded in a special MIG welding fixture. This precision welding
operation makes certain that the weld is clean and that it penetrates the entire thickness of the metal to avoid any
possible breakdowns.

Weld Final Look - This high quality weld is testament to the quality demanded of PRO-X™ Converter products.

Checking Internal Play - After the converter is together, this tool is used to check movement of internal components
play within the converter. Too much or too little and the converter will be taken apart and the process will begin again.

Converter Balancer & Balancing Weights - A PRO-X™ converter is not only a well oiled but also a well-balanced
component. Each PRO-X™ converter (as with any TCI® –level converter) is balanced to ensure that it spins smoothly
with your transmission. This machine spins the converter and tells the builder if it requires weights to achieve proper
balance. If so, weights are welded to the case. Most TCI® PRO-X™ converters require little or no counterweighting.

Overall Converter Length Check & Air Checking For Leaks - Overall converter length is checked and each converter
is air pressure checked for leaks before the painting and packaging process is begun.

Finishing Touch & Final Visual Quality Check - Each TCI® PRO-X™ converter is coated with TCI®’s proprietary HDT™
(Heat Dissipating Technology) coating, which helps reduce the operating temperature of the transmission. With all
systems checked, the final approval stamp is applied, the TCI® decal.
