LSX™-powered Ford Mustang will feature the latest technology from FAST™ and TCI®.
The Heretic. You may love the idea or you may hate it, but you better respect it. A 1,200+ hp, twin 76mm turbocharged LSX™ engine, backed by a TCI® bullet-proof 4L80E transmission and a complete FAST™ XFI™ unit, stuffed into a 2006 Mustang. It’s a crazy hybrid created by powerTV that consists of more one-off fabrications than Frankenstein. So when it came time to figure out how to control such a beast, the powerTV build team knew that the technology that FAST™ Fuel Injection Systems incorporate was what they had to have.
The brain for the vehicle is the newest FAST™ design, the XFI™ ECU with Intelligent Traction Control™. This XFI™ unit features sophisticated software that measures driveshaft speed to accurately determine the presence of tire spin. Other competing systems use inaccurate measurements, such as engine rpm which can be skewed by clutch disengagement or torque converter slippage. Another unique feature that the XFI™ units offer is a four tune memory which allows Project Heretic to “adapt” to different race tracks and driving settings by storing four separate tunes that can be changed on the fly without the use of a laptop. Combine these features with easy-to-navigate software and tuning platform, and it’s clear why the FAST™ XFI™ with Intelligent Traction Control™ was the best choice for Project Heretic. “The FAST XFI™ with Intelligent Traction Control™ has proven itself on the street and track. We knew it would be a great addition to Project Heretic because of the advanced technology, data logging capabilities and user friendly software”, states James Lawrence of powerTV. Other FAST™ products being used in the Heretic build include a FAST™ XFI™ Touch Screen Dash/Data Logger, 160 lb fuel injectors, and a FAST™ throttle body to complete the package.
With the engine management covered, powerTV had to next figure out how to get all of the twin turbocharged LSX™ power to the wheels. Knowing the reputation TCI® has in the performance automatic transmission industry, it was decided to install a built Super StreetFighter™ 4L80E Transmission. This transmission features special Alto Red Eagle clutches and reinforced internal components to ensure a long life on the track and on the road. TCI® is also supplying a Super StreetFighter™ Torque Converter and Transmission Cooler to complete the drivetrain.
