FAQ’s About FAST™ XFI™ Fuel Injection - Part Two
Getting answers to technical electronic fuel injection questions is as simple as a phone call or email to the FAST™ EFI HELP™ techline. Experts are available to reply to your specific needs and are qualified to provide fundamental and advanced information.

Many who contact the techline are advanced in their knowledge of fuel injection. Some are not. In either case, FAST™ tech support is available to answer any fuel injection questions you may have. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers on the XFI™ Fuel Injection System.

Q: The XFI™ system incorporates a lot of new features and capabilities that the original system did not offer. Can you list some of the new benefits?
A: The new C-Com WP XFI™ software version features 10 new start-up tunes to choose from and allows you to keep 4 different tunes in your ECU that can be selected through a remote switch. The XFI™ also incorporates a Fuel Energy Constant feature that will allow the user to select the fuel type, including E85 fuel, or the use of a common Fuel Composition Sensor for true “Flex Fuel” capability. In addition, the XFI™ supports many OEM and racing applications straight out of the box and can be programmed for bank fire or sequential operation. Turbocharger boost control, trans-brake control, EGR control, and a comprehensive “Power Adder” control system are also standard XFI™ features. Internal data logging is now a new optional feature that eliminates the need for an external storage device to log data. XFI™ software updates are available at www.fuelairspark.com at no charge!

Q: With the XFI™ system do I need a separate data logger?
A: The standard XFI™ ECU can log data from up to 24 sensors and record this data to a laptop that is connected through the communications cable. One of the optional upgrades for the XFI™ is an internal data logging feature (Part #301423). This option will allow the recorded data to be stored in the XFI™ unit and downloaded to a laptop at a later time. This eliminates the need to have a laptop in the vehicle while recording data. Any XFI™ can be upgraded with the internal data logging feature. For the ultimate real time viewing and data logging of engine and vehicle data, we have a Touch Screen Dash/Data Logger (Part #301417). This, along with our wide range of auxiliary sensors and data acquisition hardware, will allow the user to view all engine and vehicle data on a touch screen display. This recorded data can be played back on the touch screen or downloaded to a laptop for graph viewing in the C-Com software. The dash receives all engine data through a two wire CAN (Controller Area Network) connection with the XFI™. The Touch Screen Dash/Data Logger can record up to 1 hour of continuous data and has many other useful features.

Q: Can you explain the features of the XIM™ and what it actually does for the XFI™ system?
A: The XIM™ allows the XFI™ to be used as the engine control on any modern engine, including GM Gen III and IV engines, Chrysler 5.7 and 6.1 Hemi engines and Ford Modular engines (2, 3 and 4V valve train). The main feature of the XIM™ is that it allows the use of the factory sensors and factory coils, and FAST™ has direct plug-in harnesses for these applications. In addition, the XIM™ can be used to retrofit newer “coil-on-plug” ignition systems to older engines.

Q: Can options like Intelligent Traction Control™, internal data logging and 16-injector capability be added to a basic XFI™?
A: Any of the XFI™ options can be added to any XFI™ ECU, and the firmware in the ECU can be re-flashed without even removing it from the car. Call our FAST™ EFI HELP™ line for information about upgrading an existing XFI™ or flashing updates.

Q: Do I just need FAST™ Part #301000 for my car? (Many customers are confused about all of the parts that they need to make a system).
A: No, this part is just for the ECU, software, wide-band O2 sensor and communication cable. You will need three more parts numbers to complete the XFI™ system, including a main harness part number, fuel injector harness part number and an ignition system adapter part number. All of these parts are listed in the product section of the FAST™ website at www.fuelairspark.com. Click on the product drop down menu for help in selecting the proper components.

Q: Do you have a plug & play adapter for my car?
A: Unfortunately, we do not have any "plug & play" adapter harnesses for common domestic or import vehicles at this time. We do, however, have a few FAST™ approved dealers that offer such harnesses. Contact the FAST™ EFI HELP™ line for more information.

Q: Do I need a special camshaft for FAST™ fuel injection?
A: No, the FAST™ system is adjustable enough to accommodate any camshaft that you would like to use in any application. However, we do offer “XFI™” Camshafts that will allow you to take maximum advantage of your electronically fuel injected engine. Contact the FAST™ EFI HELP™ line for help selecting a COMP Cams® camshaft.

Q: Do you preprogram the XFI™ for my application?
A: We do not, but there are several "start-up" tunes that are included in the software for a variety of engine combinations. If you experience any problems, you may contact the FAST™ EFI HELP™ tech line for further assistance.

Q: Can I use the XIM™ to run my ignition coils on my carbureted 5.7 & 6.1 Hemi; LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7; 2, 3, & 4 valve Ford Modular engines?
A: Yes, our XIM™ system is designed so that you may run a carbureted setup and still maintain coil on plug ignition. You will need to contact the FAST™ EFI HELP™ line for more details.
