COMP Cams-Powered Camaro Sets New Pro Mod Record At IHRA Spring Nationals
Pat Stoken’s ’69 Camaro toys with sub-six second barrier, recording 6.066-second qualifying run at Rockingham Dragway

Pat Stoken’s ’69 Camaro shocked the Rockingham Dragway crowd at the recent IHRA Spring Nationals, April 18-20, setting a new national record with a 6.066-second quarter mile time in the final qualifying run of the event. This was the second consecutive record setting event for Pro Mod racers at IHRA competitions, who are edging ever closer to breaking the six-second barrier that was once considered an impossible accomplishment.

Running a massive 799cid Reher & Morrison engine equipped with a COMP Cams® camshaft, Stoken’s Camaro rewrote the record set at the previous IHRA event of 6.07-seconds recorded by Jim Halsey. According to reports from the Reher & Morrison Racing Engines facility in Arlington, Texas, the engine in Stoken’s Camaro generates 1200 lb./ft. of torque and 1585 horsepower without nitrous oxide injection. In racing trim, with the added nitrous oxide shot, that figure jumps up to the 2500 horsepower range.
