Good morning from Memphis Motorsports Park. What a difference a day makes. We had some VERY nasty thunderstorms come through the area last night, there are a number of streets with downed trees and limbs in the area.

We are bright and sunny this morning, but also cool and breezy. Yesterday to was very humid and in the mid 80's, right now there is a strong wind and temps are in the low 60's.

In walking around the pits this morning it appears that we have nine cars that staid thought the night, we will have an official count once they make the call for for everyone to come to the staging lanes.

Happy mothers day to all the moms out there, and stick with us through the day as we wrap up our coverage of the the 2008 Hot Rod Magazine Pump Gas Drags Presented by COMP Cams.

They have officially announced that the 2nd round of Eliminations is going to begin at 11 AM, so in about a half hour, we will get things underway. The weather is still pretty cool out, so those with power adders should shave off some ET.

On a sad note, a total of 4 contestants have not shown up to the track this morning to complete the 16 car field in eliminations. Nathan Man, Ev Bernardo, Brett Evans, and David Sills will not be in the elimination rounds.

Stay tuned! We'll keep you posted on the rest of the days results and news.

After two days of battling mother nature and the competition, Jim Plimpton of Franksville, Wisconsin was crowned the 2008 Pump Gas Drags champion. Despite 300+ degree engine temps on the driving portion of the 5th annual HOT ROD Pump Gas Drags, Plimpton's powerplant held on to take the win with a 8.536-second e.t. at 163.06 mph in his supercharged, 572ci Ford-powered '89 Thunderbird.
