Triplett overcomes Marcum & takes home the biggest share of the Memphis Million
Despite tough economic conditions, the 13th Annual COMP Cams® Million Dollar Race was once again a successful event, with an impressive 460+ car entries and various awards and prizes given away from October 1st to October 5th at Memphis Motorsports Park. In the Saturday night main event, David Triplett of Elstis, Florida defeated Aaron Marcum in the final round to take home the $100,000 purse. Marcum, of Meridian, Idaho, received $50,000 for the runner-up spot.
This year’s event featured a wide variety of drawings, awards and prizes. The racing action kicked off Thursday with the RHS™ Run for the Money. In this opening sprint for cash, the fastest reaction time came to a tie between Shane Carr and Nick Womack, forcing the two racers to split the $10,000 purse. The TCI® Automotive Twin 30s were held on Friday and Sunday, where each day’s winner would receive $30,000. Ronnie Egner was the winner of Friday’s event, while John Labbouse Jr. would snag the cash on Sunday.
As event sponsors, both COMP Cams® and TCI® Automotive provided on-site racer support and interaction with fans. After the Saturday night main event, various event sponsors treated those who bought a weekend pass to a free cookout. The event also included the popular Spin & Win Wheel, where participants would spin for chances to win cash or merchandise from COMP Cams®, FAST™, TCI® Automotive or ZEX™.
In the first ever “Deal or Big Deal” drawing, ten briefcases were given out that totaled $40,000, all of which contained an amount above $1,000 and one that enclosed $25,000. Of the ten lucky winners, Mike Smith was the most fortunate, as he drew the $25,000 “Big Deal” briefcase. With tons of other prizes and awards given over the weekend, you didn’t have to win a race to be a winner at the 13th Annual COMP Cams® Million Dollar Race.
