Project Juvenile

We are excited to announce that for the third year in a row Power & Performance News is teaming up with West Bend Dyno Tuning and West Bend High Schools to offer an amazing opportunity for the next generation of automotive enthusiasts.  For the 2017-18 school year, we are excited to build a Street/ Strip drag wagon that can compete in the bracket racing world and still pick up the groceries on the drive home. Our platform to build from will be an LQ4 based 1978 Ford Fairmont Wagon proudly named Juvenile.

IMG_1313Why a wagon you ask? Well, Mr. Sorce has been sort of raised around them. His father had numerous wagons from LT1 Caprices to the classier older brother Buick Roadmaster with amazingly awful wood paneling. Either way, they all had the same thing in common, they were all land yachts.  When Mr. Sorce got to High School his Automotive Instructor also had wagons. These were AMC Eagles, and later a Dodge Magnum R/T.

When it was Mr. Sorce’s time to choose a family hotrod he had to go with the practical approach of the family Wagon, but with a twist!  I know it won’t be Ford Powered, but honestly can you blame us? The LS family of engines has lots of benefits like: great power, dependability, and huge aftermarket support at an inexpensive price point. This build will be a bit different from the previous builds. We will need to find a balance between performance, dependability, and price.

The ultimate goal for this project is to educate the students through hands-on and relevant learning opportunities. The students will learn about the exciting automotive world, all while exposing the students and the spectators to the importance of supporting the next generation to peruse careers in the technical and hands-on trades.

Juvenile day 1

One very unique thing about this project is our ability to incorporate many other High School Courses into the build process. They include Welding, Manufacturing, Graphics, Engineering, Digital media/video production, and Art courses.

We are very excited to see the excitement and enthusiasm that these young people have for this project and their future in this industry.

To see Project Juvenile evolve from an ugly white box to an impressive drag racing underdog. Be sure to say connected to Power & Performance News and West Bend High School Automotive on Facebook.
