We already knew the Chevrolet Z/28 is a take-no-prisoners sports car–we just didn’t realize it was capable of this.
The new Z/28 isn’t just incredibly powerful, thanks to the seven liter LS7 capable of 500-plus horsepower, Chevrolet engineers wanted the car to be balanced with handling to match. So the Z/28 was outfitted with a performance suspension, carbon ceramic brakes and steamroller-wide 305 millimeter Perelli P Zero Trofeo tires.
But it turns out the combination was actually overpowering the tires’ ability to stay locked in their bead during hard braking. In other words, the wheels were actually spinning inside the tires.
The solution that the engineers came up with is actually an old racer trick, but the fact that Chevrolet actually has to go to these lengths to perfect the Z/28 is simply more proof of how excellent this car is going to be.
