It isn’t very often you get a chance at unrestored muscle car history, and now is your chance.
A gentleman named Larry Brown owned this 1969 Shelby GT500 with less than 9,000 miles on the odometer. When he passed he left no heirs, so the GT and the rest of his car collection is going up for auction. Ron Gilligan Auctioneering will be auctioning off the estate this April 25 in Centre Hall, Pa. and the crown jewel of the auction is definitely the Mustang.
The auction listing says this Shelby Mustang GT500 is unrestored and came from the factory wearing the Black Jade paint you see here. The interior is black, and the engine is the prized 428 Cobra Jet backed by a four-speed transmission. The car sat in storage for years (the last inspection sticker was dated 1973) and after a thorough detailing the car practically looks new.
That’s because Brown never washed the car for fear of rust. The car was stored with both the hood and trunk up and the trunk matting removed. The seats were wrapped with garbage bags, and two layers of floor mats protected the original carpet. The auction house says that there is also full documentation for the car.
Of course, we expect the Mustang will be outside the price range for many of us, but there are other vehicles being auctioned. If you are a Chevy or Mopar guy, you are out of luck because all the cars are Fords, but if you are a fan of the blue oval you may be interested in the 1971 Ford Ranchero complete with a 351 Cleveland engine, the 1990 Ford Mustang LX with the 5.0 engine package, the 1966 F100 Fleetside pickup, or our favorite, the 1974 Econoline Custom 100 van. This van screams ’70s cool, especialy the mural, the side exhaust pipes and the house carpet covering the floor, walls and even the ceiling.
We’ve posted more photos below, but there’s even more great stuff listed on the auctioneer’s web page. Clear an hour off your schedule and check it out here.
