Lunati recently released the Bootlegger line of camshafts. They say it is the most powerful line of street camshaft they’ve ever designed.

When we heard that we couldn’t wait to put that claim to the test. We still hope to do that soon, but it looks like Richard Holdener has beaten us to it. He worked with the folks at Westech Performance to dyno a 383 Chevy with a new Bootlegger cam and see just what it could do. Lunati offers the Bootlegger cams in both hydraulic flat tappet and hydraulic roller grinds, and Holdener chose the hyraulic roller. Lunati also provided the roller lifters, timing set, stronger valve springs, and retainers. The short block is a Chevy 383 crate, and the heads and intake are all from Holley.

What impressed us with this test is how strong the Bootlegger cams run down low and the middle of the rpm range–where most engines spend their time on the street. The Bootleggers are simply rebadged race cams, but are cams designed expressly to make great power in a usable rpm range for street performance.
